Be part of an agenda-setting event for the future of dementia care

If you’re prone to FOMO, you’d better stop reading now… there’ll be so many special moments at #IDC2024, you definitely don’t want to miss out.
It’s less than a month until #IDC2024: In the Arena!
We can’t wait for our hundreds of delegates to all be in a room together at the Hilton Sydney from 5-6 September – the people (from Australia and the wider world) who are in the arena every day, battling to improve lives for those living with dementia.
Expert speakers, relevant topics
#IDC2024 will feature a wide range of highly regarded experts in their fields bringing their take on the issues challenging aged and health care professionals the world over.
Our main stage speakers will be wrestling with difficult issues such as palliative care in an age of voluntary assisted dying (Dr Nathan Davies), sexuality in aged care (Dr Nathalie Huitema), equitable access to ground-breaking dementia treatments (Dr Tom Russ), and the balance between regulation and risk (Dr Samir Sinha).
And our panels will introduce a range of viewpoints on vital, even contentious topics like the role of first responders and the future of residential care. Check out this blog on some of our panellists and the topics they’ll be weighing in on.
It’s a program packed with topics that are bound to cause debate and inspire conversations long after our delegates have packed their bags and gone home.
Compelling, real-life stories
We’re sure that – just like The Dementia Centre – our delegates’ organisations are motivated to make life better for people living with dementia, as well as their carers, families and loved ones.
That’s why we’ll make sure you’ll hear from them at #IDC2024.
They are heartfelt, heart-breaking and hopeful real-life stories that are bound to surprise you, disturb you, even delight you.

There will also be a number of people living with dementia and their family members speaking from the main stage, such as Sarah Mitchell, who supported her mum, well-known author and blogger Wendy Mitchell, to live as independently as she could with dementia over a period of 10 years.
Following Wendy’s death in February 2024, through the act of ‘voluntarily stopping eating and drinking’ (VSED), Sarah feels moved to share her experience in order to push forward the discussion around the complexities of dementia and assisted dying.
You are not going to want to miss what these speakers bring to the stage at #IDC2024 – the compelling, complicated reality of living with dementia.
While you’re there, check out the rest of our incredible range of presentations – here are some of the highlights to remind you what’s ahead.
Get connected
#IDC2024 will be your chance to reconnect with old friends and colleagues from the sector, and to make new ones.
Be sure you’re booked into our separately ticketed Networking Event on Thursday 5 September, at the Hilton’s Zeta Bar, to make the most of the opportunity to build relationships and catch up with old friends.
There’ll also be plenty of chances throughout the day to chat over delicious, catered snacks and meals and discuss the many urgent issues addressed by our speakers.
And you might even get an opportunity to chat to our MC – legendary Australian ABC journalist Leigh Sales – who’ll be signing copies of her books Any Ordinary Day and Storytellers on Day 2.
Have you reserved your seat? Make sure you’re in the arena when all the action takes place this September.
